Rajesh Hamal is a Nepali actor, environmental activist, producer, director, singer and a comedian . Referred to in the media as the “Rajesh Dai”, “Shankar(based on character of his movie)”, and “Maha Nayak (Great Hero)”. Hamal has a significant following in Nepal and the Nepalese diaspora worldwide. He is one of the biggest movie stars and the most respected public figures in Nepal.

Rajesh Hamal began his acting career with a lead role in Yug Dekhi Yug Samma (1991) then he got to play in other hit movies such as Kasam (1993), Deuta (1993), Chor (1998), Ek Number Ko Pakhe (1999), Basanti (2000), Hami Tin Bhai (2004) and many other films for which he received 86 awards and 101 nominations. Rajesh Hamal himself said that working with director Suraj Sangraula of UNH really changed his life. Hamal has received many awards for his acting including the National Film Awards from 1988–2014. He is currently serving as Goodwill Ambassador for the Building Back Right initiative to promote reconstruction after the April 25 earthquake that is safe, environmentally sustainable, culturally appropriate and free of rights violations such as child and bonded labour.
